Ruth Connor

Ruth joined the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) in February 2018 as Executive Director of Strategic Marketing, responsible for the Marketing, Communications and Engagement Directorate. Ruth began her career with the Rank Group in London where she held various positions before the company was acquired by Bourne Leisure in 2000 which incorporated the Butlins, Haven, Warner and Haven Europe brands. Ruth held the Sales and Marketing Director position on the Board of the £150m Butlins business. Ruth took up the position of Sales and Marketing Director for the Gold Medal Travel Group in Preston which was the largest scheduled flight sales operator in the UK with a £400m turnover. The company was successfully sold to Thomas Cook in December 2009 for £80m. Ruth continued with the business as Sales and Marketing Director of the £600m turnover Thomas Cook Scheduled Division. Ruth joined Shearings Holidays in 2010 as Managing Director of the £90m operator. Ruth left Shearings to take up the role of Chief Executive of Marketing Lancashire, the agency charged with promoting the county on a national and international stage. Ruth was recognised as the 11th top female influencer in the North West by Insider business magazine in 2017 and won Outstanding Contribution to Lancashire at the Lancashire Business Awards in 2015.
